Netflix just dropped its new mystery series, His & Hers, on January 8, and the show is already receiving rave reviews.
Led by Tessa Thompson and Emmy winner Jon Bernthal, the series boasts an impressive 82% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising it as “fresh.”
Now being hailed as an ideal New Year TV pick, here’s why His & Hers is worth watching.
Is His & Hers Worth Watching?

His & Hers is a six-episode limited series adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 bestselling novel of the same name.
Starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal as former couple, news reporter Anna Andrews and Detective Jack Harper, the series combines psychological suspense with classic whodunit elements.
But despite its traditional detective story features, it delivers a fresh take on the murder mystery genre.
“His & Hers is an excellent thriller with an all-star cast that is absolutely worth binge-watching as soon as you can,” wrote Jeanine T. Abraham for Medium.
Wall Street Journal’s John Anderson praised Thompson for her “pure emotional stealth” and “arresting presence at all times,” while Bernthal is noted for his knack for turning tender moments into heightened drama.
Archika Khurana of The Times of India also commended creator and director William Oldroyd for making the show “intermittently gripping,” complemented by the cast’s strong performances.
Overall, His & Hers is a dark, gripping, and utterly unpredictable mystery that hooks viewers from start to finish.
As Alex Maidy of JoBlo’s Movie Network puts it, “A perfect series to watch in the depths of winter, His & Hers has all the trappings of a guilty-pleasure binge, delivered with high-quality production.”
What is His & Hers About?

His & Hers isn’t just a mystery thriller; it’s a twisty, seductive psychological thriller.
Set in the seemingly quiet northern Georgian town of Dahlonega, the story centers on a brutal murder that uncovers old friendships and hidden secrets.
The series follows Anna, who returns to her hometown after learning about the murder of her high school friend. As a reporter, she begins investigating the case, only to cross paths with her estranged husband, Detective Jack.
Their complicated past adds layers to the investigation, turning the familiar mystery setup into a story filled with personal stakes and intense emotional tension.
“Seeing characters who had lived inside my head for so long come to life, was unlike anything I had experienced before. Jon Bernthal was one of the first people I met on set,” Feeney told Tudum. “He was dressed as Jack Harper, so all I saw was Jack walking and talking and coming towards me. Seeing my characters come to life for the first time was one of the most surreal moments of my life, and Tessa and Jon are the perfect Anna and Jack.”
His & Hers is available to stream on Netflix.
