Ridley Scott recently teased that he is planning to do a follow-up to Alien: Covenant with Michael Fassbender's fan-favorite character David.

Fortunately, it looks like Scott is not giving up just yet.

In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, Ridley Scott, who is currently 88 years old, confirmed he is still planning to do a third Alien prequel movie that will follow the events of Covenant and bring back Michael Fassbender as David.

He teased that the potential next installment will focus on David creating a "brave new world for himself" and dealing with how AI could go wrong.

"AIs can go off. And if they do, it’s like a bomb," the filmmaker said.

The idea of using AI in filmmaking was also brought up during the discussion. While he has no intention of using it as a tool, he is fascinated by how a rogue AI can lead to disaster.

"The uneasy question is: Can the AI only be as good as the information fed into it? If I say ‘Here’s a blank canvas, write me such and such,’ would that just be a melange of millions of other scripts? Probably. But the danger is it’ll pass that point and become smarter than we are," Scott said.

However, fans might need to wait a little longer before the project comes to fruition, since Scott is still eyeing his adaptation of Treasure Island as the next film that he is directing.

Following the box office and critical success of Alien: Romulus, a sequel is currently in development, although director Fede Alvarez is not expected to direct the installment.

"We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for Romulus. But I’m going to pass the torch on this one as director," Alvarez said in an interview. "I’m going to produce it with Ridley Scott. We’re going to produce it together, and we’re right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in."

As of this writing, no director has been hired yet to helm the project.

Meanwhile, on the television side, the second season of Alien: Earth is currently in production, with plans to premiere next year.
