Following the airing of the final episode, fans of Stranger Things online expressed disappointment over Linda Hamilton's underutilized role in the fifth season.
When it was first announced that the Terminator star was joining the cast of the hit Netflix series, there was a lot of excitement about her appearance, as there was an expectation that she would be playing a badass character and become a scene stealer. However, as the season went by, fans started to wonder whether she really served a meaningful purpose in the story.
Why Stranger Things Fans Are Disappointed with Linda Hamilton's Season 5 Role
Now that the final episode has been released on Netflix, fans have weighed in on Linda Hamilton's entire arc in the fifth season of Stranger Things.
A lot of them expressed disappointment that her character, Dr. Kay, didn't have a lot of screen time in the season, even in the final episode. Some fans online can't help but share their frustration that Hamilton was wasted in the season, despite her reputation as a badass action star.
Some fans questioned whether the character had any value in the season, given her lesser screen time, and why Hamilton was cast in a role that turned out to be insignificant or underused in the overall arc.
Here are some of the reaction posts from fans on X:
While fans were disappointed by her screen time, Hamilton told Tudum that she was excited to join the series, since she was a fan and had seen all four seasons before the offer came to her.
"There is something huge going on in every scene. It was really amazing that I had to jump into the middle of it all, and I’d never even heard the character’s voice come out of my mouth yet. It was a little overwhelming. But when all was said and done, man, I felt really ready," she said.
What Happened in the Final Season of Stranger Things
The final season of Stranger Things was set in the fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished, and his whereabouts and plans are unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming, and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone, the full party, standing together, one last time.
The entire main cast from the previous seasons returned to play their iconic roles one last time. The episodes were released across three volumes. The final episode aired last December 31, just in time for New Year's Eve.
