Will Byers and Eleven are two of the main suspects who might end up being sacrificed for the greater good in Stranger Things season 5.
However, when the trailer showcased the familiar Castle Byers that Will set up for himself, it poses the question of just how important Will's secret fortress is in the Upside Down.

What's up with Will's Secret Fortress & What Is It For?

Castle Byers first appeared in 1982, depicting where Will Byers usually ran off to when things went bad in Hawkins, and was portrayed as one of his few sanctuaries.
As the name implies, he and his older brother Jonathan most likely built the fort in the middle of the woods as part of their bonding, while still being able to keep things important to Will nearby: a blanket for comfort, some comic books he liked, and a makeshift kids' room catered to what he likes.

Why Is Castle Byers Important in the Stranger Things Universe?
The first episode of Stranger Things, which marked the day Will first disappeared from Hawkins, also happened to feature a particular music score dedicated to Castle Byers. Surely, this childhood fort holds significance in what's to come for Will?
One of those possibilities is that the fort became the very channel that transported him from Hawkins to the Upside Down.
Considering that the season 1 cliffhanger left Will becoming the "Spy" that Mike and his friends had to fight off to keep Vecna and the other Upside Down creatures off their trail, Castle Byers potentially connected the real world to the otherworldly universe.
Not to mention, the official trailer unveiled one of Vecna's darkest secrets: "William, you are going to help me... one last time." Remember the second season, when Will became Vecna's "spy"?
The stakes just got higher, with Will's life potentially on the line. Could he save his friends in time or end up succumbing to his fear of Vecna and his powers? We'll have to wait and find out once the final season releases on Netflix.
Fans can expect Stranger Things season 5 to premiere its volume 1 on November 26, volume 2 on Christmas Day, and the final episode on New Year's Eve.
