Why is the Ricky Stanicky movie rated R? The upcoming comedy flick starring the likes of John Cena and Zac Efron is not as family-friendly as it seems. Here's a parents' watch guide before seeing the film.

What is the Ricky Stanicky Flick About?

Ricky Stanicky follows three close buds, Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler, who have invented their fourth existing friend as mentioned in the title.

Apparently, Stanicky had "cancer", which sends the trio on a short trip to Atlantic City. As it turns out, this Ricky Stanicky doesn't exist. He was an imaginary friend to cover up the truth: they wanted a getaway from their life.

However, this lie burst into flames when Santion's pregnant wife goes into labor earlier than they expected. Upon their return, their families are suspicious, considering they couldn't find any Ricky Stanicky in existence.

Enter John Cena, aka Rock Hard Rod, who is a failed impersonator-actor that the trio hired to pretend to be the Ricky Stanicky they've been visiting over the past years of their lives.

Well, as much as the comedic elements are present in the trailer, it doesn't look as kid-friendly as parents hoped it would be, especially when the story focuses on three adult men finding a temporary escape from reality.

That said, what is the Ricky Stanicky movie rated?

Unfortunately, you may want to keep your kids from seeing the film, as Ricky Stanicky is not intended for children. According to an interview with film writer-director Peter Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber), the flick is a "raunchy R-rated comedy."

It has been officially rated R (Restricted) for its "sexual material, harsh language, intense graphic violence, drug abuse, and nudity."

The R-rating means children under the age of 17 are required to have an accompanying parent or adult guardian with them.

While Ricky Stanicky is supposedly a comedy flick, the sexual jokes and adult activities portrayed (as seen from the trailer alone) would not be appropriate for kids below 17 years old to be exposed to.

Meanwhile, Ricky Stanicky starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video on March 7.
