Mae is seeking revenge against the Jedi, as established in The Acolyte’s first two episodes. While Mae hasn’t explained why exactly she’s seeking revenge, there is already lots of info to work with in piecing together the story.
For instance, we already know her four main Jedi targets. What’s more, Osha and Master Sol already dropped important details about what happened in the past that hold the key to Mae’s revenge motivations.

Why Does Mae Want to Get Revenge on Four Jedi? Speculations Explored
The new Star Wars series The Acolyte episode 1 began with a big fight between Mae and Master Indara (played by Carrie-Anne Moss). Mae ends up victorious as she kills Master Indara. This prompts an investigation from the Jedi Order.
At first, it was believed that the former Padawan Osha was the one behind the killing. Her former Jedi Master Sol catches up to her, and they figure out that it was Osha’s twin sister Mae that killed Master Indara.
Sol finally confronts Mae after the death of Master Torbin. Before this confrontation though, Osha mentions to Sol that she believes Mae’s targets are the four Jedi that were stationed in Brendok.
Presumably, Brendok is the home planet of Osha and Mae. After all, Sol saved Osha on her home planet. What’s more, the poison that Mae used for Torbin originated from their home planet.
Even though Osha believes that Mae caused the fire that killed their family, that may not be entirely the case. After all, Torbin said that he made a mistake in the past and willingly drank the poison.
Given these details, what truly happened to Osha and Mae in the past likely involves the four Jedi that Mae is targeting. We’ll likely get more details in the coming episodes as Sol and Osha investigate.

The Four Jedi are Key in Knowing Mae’s Motivations
Indara and Torbin may be dead, but we’re guaranteed to see more of them, at least their past selves. That’s because the show’s official trailer shows the four Jedi in what seems to be a flashback.
It’s not clear where this flashback is happening, but it’s expected to be shown at some point later in The Acolyte, and it will likely reveal what truly happened to Osha and Mae in the past.
As Torbin is remorseful about what happened, there’s a possibility that the Jedi caused the tragedy that befell Osha and Mae’s family.
If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see how Mae survived and how she turned to the Dark Side.
