On Tuesday the Hope van Dyne actress shared an old video of herself imagining out loud what her life would look like in ten years. It has now been nearly 20 years since that video, and the actress finally announced she is retiring – at least for now. Here's what's next for her.
Ant-Man Star Pausing Acting Career for Retirement Plans
Evangeline Lilly is best known for her breakout role as Kate Austin in the hit sci-fi series, Lost, but she also went on to star as Tauriel in The Hobbit franchise.
Eventually, she jumped into becoming one of the most prominent superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Hope van Dyne aka the Wasp in the Ant-Man franchise.
As much as Marvel fans hope to see more of the Wasp in the Multiverse, the 44-year-old actress has just declared she's now looking into retiring from her acting career.
Earlier this week, Lilly took to Instagram to share a video of herself she had taken in 2006. In the video, she talks candidly about what she would like her future to look like.
"Ten years from now, where would I like to be?" Lilly says, "I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world but ideally, 10 years from now, I'd like to be a retired actress and have a family."
"I'd like to be writing and potentially influencing people's lives in humanitarian ways," she added.
Now, almost 20 years on from that video, Lilly is retiring to work on those goals. Still, there is room for some hope she "might return to Hollywood one day."
For now, though, the actress admitted she is "happy" and feels "this is where she belongs."
As if by cosmic coincidence, on the same day, Lilly posted on her Instagram story a quote from the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, which resonates with her statement: "Only by living life can you free yourself from it. So live it to such a degree that it befits you."
Over the years, the Marvel actress seems to have achieved many of the goals she set out for herself.
Apart from a prolific and enduring on-screen career, she has authored a children's novel series called The Squickerwonkers whose first volume was published in 2014, followed by two more in 2019 and 2020.
In her personal life, Lilly and her partner of 14 years, Norman Kali, have two children. So far, the couple have managed to keep their sons, born 2011 and 2015, mostly out of the spotlight.
Now that she's retiring, the actress has said she wants to focus on spending more time with her family and live life to the fullest for now, especially since she's "not under any contractual obligations to anybody."
