Celebrity power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z failed to make an appearance in last Sunday's Emmy Awards ceremony, and fans have been wondering why they were absent.
The two music icons were both nominated for the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category. Beyoncé was recognized as an executive producer and performer for the Beyoncé Bowl halftime show, while Jay-Z was recognized for his work as an executive producer in Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar.
Why Beyoncé and Jay-Z Did Not Attend the Emmy Awards
Speaking with Variety, Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony producer Jesse Collins opened up about Beyoncé and Jay-Z's absence. However, they didn't provide any reason why they chose to skip the event.
"We figured it out when they weren’t in the seats. 'Oh, you guys aren’t coming!'" he said.
However, they reserved some seats for them in case they decided to attend the ceremony.
Collins explained, "She can make anything happen. It doesn’t matter where she is in the world right now, if she wants to be here, she’ll be here, and there will be a seat for her. Several. We’re ready for them and whatever they want to do… those are my bosses, so it’s up to them."
In the end, the couple's decision to skip the ceremony turned out to be for the best since they both lost the category to SNL50: The Anniversary.
