What Happened to Destruction After Orpheus and Dream's Turmoil?
After Destruction showed Orpheus the path to reach his aunt, Death, he had disappeared from his post and his own family for centuries.
Considering that the members of the Endless have had their own duties and responsibilities to attend to in the waking world, Destruction's sudden flight took their siblings, most notably Delirium, by surprise. This led them to search for him.
Destruction, as revealed in episode 4, titled "Brief Lives," had been living in the privacy of his island home with a dog named Barnabas. After all these years, Destruction had done nothing but keep anyone from ever finding him.
This, Dream and Delirium had yet to understand, at least until they broke through his barrier and managed to infiltrate his home.
Why Did Destruction Leave Endless? Is He Allowed to Do That?
Destruction left his post in his assigned realm for two things: he knew what humans are capable of, and that his personification of Destruction clashed with his personal ideals.
As seen in the fourth episode, Destruction has a knack for creating new things.
Unfortunately, due to his destructive nature, his attempt to create something for the world never went smoothly. If anything, it goes against the very reason for his existence.
Of the Endless siblings, Destruction is most famously known for abandoning his role to become the character known as "The Prodigal."
This choice didn't stem from a place of fear or the urge to escape his fate, but rather from his firm decision to pursue redemption in this world.
The Endless are technically allowed to leave their roles, but not without leaving the waking world with consequences.
In Destruction's case, he believed that his absence wouldn't matter as much—destruction would always find a way even beyond his control. And as he told Dream before leaving, he is doing this for the sake of humans and everything else.
