With the passing of Don Rickles in 2017, fans have been wondering which new voice actor has been cast for Mr. Potato Head in the highly anticipated Toy Story 5.

In the fourth film, which was released in 2019, Rickles' previously recorded material was used for Mr. Potato Head. Years later, with the fifth film arriving, there have been questions about whether archive voice recordings will be used again or if a new voice actor who sounds like Rickles will play the role instead, continuing the character's presence in the franchise.

Who is Voicing Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 5?

Pixar officially confirmed that veteran voice actor Jeff Bergman is taking over the voice role of Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 5.

In case you're not familiar with his work, he voiced Bugs Bunny in various Looney Tunes media after the passing of original voice actor Mel Blanc. He has also voiced Fred Flintstone in various The Flintstones projects in the last three decades.

Not only that, but they also revealed that veteran voice actress Anna Vocino is set to voice Mrs. Potato Head in the upcoming film. She is taking over the role from the late Estelle Harris, who passed away in 2022.

This is the first time that Pixar recast one of the major characters in the Toy Story series since Blake Clark took over the role of Slinky Dog in the third movie from Jim Varney, who passed away after the second film's release.

It remains unknown whether Bergman and Vocino's casting is permanent for the rest of the franchise in upcoming projects.

What to Expect in Toy Story 5

In Toy Story 5, the toys are back, and this time, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie.

It will also feature the reunion of Woody and Buzz following Woody’s decision to leave the gang and start helping lost toys at the end of the fourth film. As the toys face the tech devices of today, it’s going to be all hands on deck with some familiar and all-new characters.

The voice cast is led by Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. They are joined by Greta Lee as Lilypad, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, and Tony Hale as Forky. The ensemble expands with Craig Robinson as Atlas, Shelby Rabara as Snappy, Scarlett Spears as Bonnie, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase.

Also featured are John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head, Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Melissa Villaseñor as Karen Beverly, John Hopkins as Mr. Pricklepants, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom.

The film is set to release in theaters on June 19. Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton serves as director.
