In a world full of Barbies and Kens, as indicated in his character poster, there is only one Allan.
Played by Michael Cera in the upcoming movie of Greta Gerwig, Barbie, who is he, how is he connected to the narrative, and what is his history in real life?
Who Is Allan in Barbie Movie?
The upcoming Barbie movie of Greta Gerwig led by Margot Robbie and a star-studded cast is one of the most highly anticipated films that will come out this year and included in the roster of actors is Michael Cera who will play Allan.
As seen in the trailer of Barbie, Allan is the only one of his kind in Barbieland when the other guys are all Kens and the girls, except Midge, are all Barbies.
He looks awkward and Michael Cera makes him stand out among other dolls, probably the best casting for the character.
Similar to Midge, Allan is one of the lesser known dolls that Mattel released.
Allan was released in 1964 as "Ken's buddy," and he was the one who gives emotional support to the main dolls. He was also the best man at the wedding of Barbie and Ken.
After a few years, Mattel retired Allan and when he returned in the 90s, his name was changed to "Alan" where Mattel dropped one f the Ls in his name.
His revival was his marriage to the best friend of Barbie, Midge.

However, in 2002, a controversy arose with Midge. The story of the dolls was that Midge and Alan got a second child, and Mattel released a pregnant Midge doll whose belly pops off to reveal a baby inside it.
This was pulled out because people thought it promotes teen pregnancy.
When Mattel released new versions of Midge and Alan, Midge was no longer pregnant but has a baby doll with her, and Alan was released with a baby stroller.
That was the last time everyone saw Alan, until the Barbie movie revealed that he is among the characters.
Given that the Barbie movie shows Midge being pregnant, it is safe to say that she ended up with Allan in the movie and the baby she is carrying is their child, much like that of the dolls released by Mattel.
Allan is also expected to be a friend to a certain Ken, not known yet who among those.
