Where You Can Watch Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Prologue

The Odyssey

The six-minute prologue to the upcoming Christopher Nolan film The Odyssey is finally releasing in theaters. But which specific screenings can you watch it?

One of the most-anticipated movies next year is The Odyssey, which will serve as Nolan's follow-up to the Best Picture winner Oppenheimer. It is expected to be the famed director's most ambitious and epic film yet due to its massive scope and budget (reportedly his most expensive one to date). However, before audiences get to see the film, they will have an opportunity to watch the prologue very soon.

Audiences can watch the six-minute prologue to The Odyssey starting this weekend, December 12, exclusively on IMAX.

However, it will only be shown ahead of the IMAX 70mm screenings of the re-releases of Sinners and One Battle After Another. It will be available as well in the IMAX screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, when it releases later this month.

In the following weekend, a shorter full-length version of The Odyssey trailer will be playing in all regular screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, so there is still a way for you to watch a teaser to the upcoming film even outside IMAX.

If you're wondering why the prologue is only available on IMAX, it's simply because Christopher Nolan shot the film entirely with IMAX 70mm cameras, and it's his preferred format for how it will be shown.

The details regarding what audiences should expect on the six-minute prologue are still under wraps, but it will give them a tease of the epic storytelling that Nolan has in store when we watch the entire film next year.

Earlier this summer, the first teaser trailer was released ahead of the screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, which was our first early glimpse of the upcoming film.

What to Expect in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

Nolan's The Odyssey is based on Homer's ancient Greek epic. Set after the Trojan War, the story follows Odysseus as he faces the dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Circe along the way.

The star-studded cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, and many more.

The film is slated for release in theaters on July 17, 2026, including in premium IMAX screenings worldwide and other premium large formats.
