It has been over two decades since Sex and the City ended, but the romantic-comedy series remains one of the best TV shows of all time. In addition to receiving critical acclaim, it is also credited with boosting HBO’s popularity when it premiered in 1998.

Given its success, it’s no surprise that the show continues to air in syndication worldwide. So, here’s where you can watch all six seasons, spin-offs, and movies of Sex and the City online, plus VPN tips if its unavailable in your region.

Where to Stream Sex and the City Series and Movies

Sex and the City follows the lives, loves, and friendships of four women living in New York City: the streetwise newspaper columnist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), the sexually liberal PR professional Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), the more conservative art dealer Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and the cynical lawyer Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), as they navigate romance, sexuality, and their careers.

The girls' stories did not end in six seasons. If anything, they continued through two more spin-offs, namely, And Just Like That... and The Carrie Diaries.

And Just Like That..., which follows Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte in their 50s post-Sex and the City timeline, navigates more about their more mature stories that tackle widowhood, divorce, menopause, and such, is available to stream on:

Meanwhile, The Carrie Diaries, which is a prequel series set in the 1980s, explores Carrie Bradshaw's early life in New York, through high school and internships, is streaming on:

In case you didn't know, Sex and the City didn't only spring spin-offs and prequels, but even an extended storyline through two movies...

Sex and the City (2008)

Despite everything they've been through together in the original series, Mr. Big and Carrie called the wedding off. The first Sex and the City film explores how Mr. Big eventually realizes that all he really needs in his life is to marry Carrie, even though he still fears a failed marriage.

Sex and the City 2 (2010)

What happens after 'I do'? Sex and the City 2 strives to know that answer. Especially Carrie, who, despite her long and stable marriage with Mr. Big, still fears what could happen once the spark is gone. Enter Samantha Jones, who invites her girls to a trip to Abu Dhabi as a getaway from their reality.

Is the Story of Sex and the City Over?

Sex and the City may have ended its six-season run in 2004, but its story continued through the feature films Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010), as well as the prequel series The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014). And as already discussed, a revival and sequel series, And Just Like That, was released in 2021, continuing the four friends’ lives and friendships into their 50s.

However, after three seasons, the show concluded, with lead star Sarah Jessica Parker saying that it was “where the story ended.” She told The New York Times:

  • “We could have gone on doing coffee shops. There's a million ways to do it that are easy and familiar and fun, but feel exploitative to us."
  • "We felt this was the honorable thing to do. It's very easy to stay. It's where we're all happy. But you have to be principled when you make these very difficult, agonizing decisions because there are a lot of people who are affected."

Showrunner Michael Patrick King also confirmed the sequel’s ending — a decision made in collaboration with Parker. King wrote in a statement:

  • "SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season."
  • "It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years."

Then again, on January 23, 2026, Golden Globe nominee Kristin Davis, who played Charlotte in Sex and the City, believes that And Just Like That... wouldn't end there just yet.

When her co-star Mario Cantone, who played Anthony Marantino, expressed he "wanted one more season", Davis couldn't agree more and said, "I'm in denial, and I would like to remain that way," in hopes that the series finale won't close the doors of the SATC universe just yet...
