How to Use a VPN to Watch Black Swan

Streaming availability can vary by country, so Black Swan may not be accessible in all regions. In such cases, a VPN allows you to watch the movie even if it’s unavailable in your location.

A VPN works by connecting you to servers in different countries, making it appear as though you’re browsing from that location. For instance, if Black Swan is available on Netflix US but not on Netflix in your country, you can connect your VPN to a US server to stream the film.

Beyond bypassing geo-restrictions, a VPN can also improve your streaming speeds and reduce buffering. Natalie Portman was still a rising star when director Darren Aronofsky offered her the role of Nina in Black Swan.

Fresh off Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, she was approached by Aronofsky, who had recently gained acclaim for his intense addiction drama Requiem for a Dream, with the idea of playing a ballet dancer. He told her he wanted to “make something in the world of ballet.”

“I was just excited to explore that with him,” she told Vogue.

From there, the rest is history. Although Aronofsky revealed that “everyone passed on Black Swan,” a unique blend of horror and ballet, the film went on to earn nearly $330 million worldwide, becoming Fox Searchlight’s second-highest-grossing film to date, after Slumdog Millionaire.

The film also received widespread critical acclaim, with particular praise for Aronofsky's direction and the performances of Portman, Kunis, and Barbara Hershey, who played Nina’s mother and a former ballet dancer herself.

It was no surprise, then, that in 2021, Portman’s performance was included in The New Yorker’s list of the best film performances of the 21st century.
