Wizards of the Coast's popular card game Magic: The Gathering Arena is coming to consoles, and fans won't have to wait for long. Currently, the game can only be downloaded from Wizards of the Coast's website for play on PC and Mac computers and can be downloaded via the Apple App and Google Play Store for Android and iOS devices, but when will it arrive on consoles?
If you're excited to play MTG Arena on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch, keep on reading to find out more updates about its expected release date.
When is MTG Arena coming to consoles?
During Hasbro's quarterly earnings call in July 2022, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks announced that Magic: The Gathering Arena would likely launch on consoles sometime in 2023, but as of August 2022, Wizards of the Coast hasn't provided an exact release date yet.
MTG Arena is also expected to arrive on Steam later this year, but Wizards didn't announce which specific consoles the digital card game will be available on. The announcement represents a major expansion for the digital version of Magic: The Gathering, which is still the most popular trading card game in the world.
During that same call, Cocks mentioned that MTG Arena as an important part of Magic: The Gathering's ongoing success, with the digital game seen as the primary way to introduce MTG to new players.

Will console versions of MTG Arena be available for cross-play?
Assumably, the console versions of MTG Arena will include crossplay similar to the other versions of the game, although Wizards of the Coast didn't confirm that in the call. The mobile version of the game lets players crossplay with PC players, so it's safe to assume that the console version will follow the same approach.
