Nobody thought that a What We Do in the Shadows spinoff was ever going to top the original movie from Taika Waititi, but six seasons later and FX’s WWDITS series has managed to become a cult classic.

The series is now gearing up for its final season, and it teases a big surprise from the silly vampires of Staten Island – a new vampire.

A Secret New Vampire Roommate?

To get people in the mood for spooky season this October, the series has dropped its first trailer for the sixth season, and the premiere is expected to happen around the latter end of the month. Check this out:

Probably one of the biggest reveals is that the vampires actually have a fifth roommate that they forgot about—Jerry (played by SNL’s Mike O’Brien). Jerry has apparently been taking a "super slumber" all this time, but the other vampires forgot to wake him up. He was expecting to come out of the coffin around the 90s, but was instead left to sleep for around 50 years.

Other shenanigans include Laszlo attempting to resurrect a mishmash of dead bodies—which is totally not what Dr. Frankenstein did (why would you even bring that up?); Nadja getting used to modern office life; Nandor going on another attempt at world conquest; and Colin Robinson up to his usual energy vampire antics—which usually consist of bothering everyone else.

Guillermo also looks to be having a new arc this season. With him spending most of the show under Nandor’s wing, it looks like he’s finally allowed himself to actually be a bit more selfish, though the vampires are still in his life. What’s interesting is it looks like he’s working with Nadja in her office, which means he’s officially done with "familiar" work.

Other Guest Stars

Besides O’Brien getting to play Jerry the vampire, it also looks like the show is bringing in Steve Coogan (Joker: Folie a Deux) to play a ghost. The series has had a history of some great guest stars, from Nick Kroll to Mark Hamill, so hopefully this last season will manage to bring some fan-favorites back for one last swing at the crew.

Maybe the show can go full circle and bring back Taika Waititi’s crew of vamps from the original What We Do in the Shadows movie; they briefly showed up in the Vampiric council in Season One.

It's unclear where the season wants to end, but the showrunners did see this coming, and hopefully they can find a way to close the book on this group of immortals. Maybe they can have a small time jump into the future, but if the roommates have been together this long, it's likely they'll still be together down the line.

WWDITS Spinoffs

Though What We Do in the Shadows is ending, there’s still more supplementary material to enjoy in this mockumentary series. There is the original 2014 movie of the same name directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement; plus there’s also the series Wellington Paranormal which focuses on the cops of the movie just having strange paranormal run-ins in Wellington. It should be a blast for the spooky season.

Watch out for the final season of What We Do in the Shadows when it premieres on FX on Oct. 21.
