The recently arrived Netflix documentary Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever chronicles tech millionaire Bryan Johnson's mission to extend his life by up to 200 years.

Johnson has been a subject of articles and interest online for the past few years as well as criticisms from the medical field as they question his ethics and process in attempting to find the key to life extension.

Let's explore what the new documentary is about below.

What is Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever About?

Directed by Chris King (Tiger King), Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever is a new Netflix documentary that focuses on Bryan Johnson, a man who has dedicated his life to defy aging.

The film explores Johnson’s antiaging crusade and a deep dive into his psyche, revealing the drastic shifts that took the entrepreneur from his own personal struggles to dedicating his time and energy — and a considerable amount of his fortune — to living long beyond even the most ambitious human life expectancy.

"The things I do lend themselves to great headlines and people forming certain conclusions," Johnson described the documentary's focus on his mission to Tudum.

"I think what this film will do is maybe [provide] some more nuance on why we’re doing this. I think it will make the endeavor much more relatable to their lives than they imagine."

The film is now available to stream on Netflix as it premiered on New Year's Day, January 1, 2025.

Chris King on Why He Decided to Make the Documentary

Speaking with Tudum, Smith explained why he decided to make a documentary about Johnson after reading headlines about his mission.

"Last year, I saw a headline about a man spending $2 million a year to become 18 again," he shared.

"That initial curiosity led to a 12-month journey following Bryan Johnson’s quest and its effect on those closest to him, while interviewing experts from around the world to get a better understanding of the people trying to live healthier, longer. A year later, I drink less, go to bed earlier, and wear a ring that tells me how bad my sleep is."

Smith also clarified that the documentary is not intended to shoot down the vitriols against Johnson.

"The goal is never to try to change minds. It’s trying to put information out there in a way that people can make their own decisions and try to reflect things as accurately as we can," he said.
