The Thing has always been portrayed as a severed hand, but the question remained: where did Thing even come from? Sure, it’s its own “person” of a severed body part, but surely, the Thing has its actual host? Well, here’s what unraveled in Wednesday season 2.

Does Thing Find Its True Owner in Wednesday Season 2?
The Thing has been going off character in the second season. Initially, fans found it as an appreciative nod to how the original Addams family barely even thought of a sentient hand being owned by an actual human body. The Thing is different in Netflix’s Wednesday, though.
As it turns out, there’s a true reason why Isaac Night is out to get the Addams family. Of all the dead bodies Pugsley brought back to life, this marks his biggest mistake.

When Morticia and Gomez were younger, their telekinetic genius classmate was Isaac Night. Isaac stole Gomez’s electricity to fire up his invention. Morticia didn’t let Isaac get away with this, though, and intervened in the scene by killing him before the device could kill her beloved.
Morticia, who has long been preventing chaos in her family, has been hunted down by Isaac for years in his attempt to regain his severed hand, Thing, back. Once Isaac used Pugsley to reach the Addams family, he reattached his long-lost hand.
Does This Mean Thing Won’t Ever Return to the Addams Family Again?

Hold your horses now. While Isaac may have gained his hand back, let’s not forget that Thing has long been a sentient being more than his own hand. So guess what happened?
Watching anyone attack the Addams family is a big no-no for Thing, so it managed to gain anonymous control and killed Isaac by strangling him and ripping out the mechanical heart that keeps him somewhat alive.
The Addams family proudly welcomed Thing back into their lives as he detaches himself once more from Isaac, crawling right back to the very family who raised him, who always treated him as their very own.
