Amazon Prime Video's flagship superhero satire has officially come to an end, closing out its fifth and final season with the explosive finale, Blood and Bone. However, many fans tuning in were shocked to find that Vought's original premier superhero, Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles), was absent from the ultimate showdown.

Where Did Soldier Boy Go in The Boys Season 5 Finale?

If you are wondering where the shield-wielding Supe went, you have to look back to the final moments of the penultimate episode, The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk.
After realizing that his biological son Homelander's unhinged vision for America was spiraling completely out of control, Soldier Boy decided he wanted out, while he still could. He approached Homelander (Antony Starr) to announce his plans to leave the country and relocate to Bogota, Colombia, to live out his days in peace.
Unfortunately for Ben, Homelander, who was already reeling from a devastating rejection by his own son, Ryan, snapped at the thought of being abandoned by his father. Homelander intercepted Soldier Boy as he tried to walk away, choked him into unconsciousness, and locked him right back inside a cryogenic stasis chamber. Because he was left on ice, Soldier Boy remained completely sidelined during the events of the series finale.
Still, fans had hoped Soldier Boy would've figured out a way to outsmart his own son, especially given everything he had already survived. But The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke gave the perfect answer.
The Boys Showrunner Eric Kripke Explains Soldier Boys' Absence was Necessary

While some viewers felt that putting Soldier Boy in a box right before the finale was a frustrating narrative choice, showrunner Kripke defended the move as a creative necessity. Speaking to ScreenRant, he explained that the massive 65-minute finale needed to narrow its focus strictly to the main characters.
"I think we told his story that we wanted to tell in this season," Kripke said, "Part of the job of the season was wrapping up other people's supporting players' stories, so that on that final episode, we could really focus on the main characters."
Kripke also noted that letting the veteran Supe tag along in the finale would have overcomplicated the final battle between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander. Leaving him in cryogenic stasis keeps the focus on the show's original emotional anchors, while keeping the door wide open for Jensen Ackles' next major chapter in the franchise.
Soldier Boy's story, after all, is far from over. Ackles will be reprising his role in Vought Rising, an upcoming The Boys prequel spin-off series set in the 1950s, alongside Aya Cash's Stormfront. According to Kripke, the prequel will showcase why he met his fate this way.
"We're deep into Vought Rising and we know what that story is. We know where that goes; a lot will make sense that might not make sense to the viewers at this exact moment, but hang in there, it all will."
In the meantime, both The Boys and Gen V are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
