Christopher Nolan has finally opened up about the online backlash surrounding his upcoming highly anticipated film, The Odyssey.

While millions of fans worldwide have been looking forward to the release of the new film based on the ancient Greek epic, it has already received criticism due to its historical inaccuracies and misrepresentation of ancient Greek culture, as well as the casting of people-of-color performers to play the characters like Helen of Troy.

Now, the director has finally reacted to the backlash that his film has already received on social media.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Nolan was asked about his comments on the online backlash regarding The Odyssey before its release in theaters.

He shared that he expected the criticisms of the film, but he was not bothered by the remarks as he knew that most of them had not seen the entire film yet, and he found it to be "irrelevant."

"Comes with the territory. But look, these conversations that happen before people see the film – they’re always irrelevant, because no one having them knows what the film actually is yet," the director said.

Nolan also noted that the criticisms reminded him of the years when he did the Batman movies, where he also received criticisms of some of the creative choices that he made.

"But remember, I spent 10 years of my life dealing with Batman," he said. "When I came on to Batman Begins, writers and artists had been working on this beloved character for almost 65 years, and a lot of freighted thoughts were out there about what he represents. And what I learnt over my time on that trilogy is you can’t worry about any of that at all."

He added, "What you have to do is honor the original text by interpreting it in the strongest way you personally can."

So far, the film has been getting overwhelmingly positive early reactions, suggesting that The Odyssey is another accomplishment from Nolan and the historical inaccuracies did not hurt the overall quality.
