Emma's Sleepwalking Obsession with Numbers Makes Sense Now
Sarah Pinborough's sleep-deprivation thriller series has officially ended on Paramount+. One of the most pressing questions fans have been curious about was Emma's obsession with numbers while she was in her sleepwalking state.
In Emma's sleepwalking, she would always fill the water in the bathtub, sing a familiar melody, and mumble the same numbers over and over again to herself.
It may have taken Emma half of the show to figure out that she needed to set up a surveillance camera, but it proved to the family's advantage in figuring out her night routine (which at one point was to smother her son with a pillow in his sleep nearly).
As it turned out, Emma revealed the meaning of the numbers to her sister, Phoebe. Remember their family's 'curse' of suffering insomnia when they reach 40? Well, there's a reason behind it.
According to what her security cameras showed, the numbers served as timestamps of future key events that would serve as a warning to Emma. Her sleepwalking routine was a recreation of the events before they even occurred.

The Family 'Curse' Falls into Will's Hands
However, as relieved as Emma and Phoebe are finally rid of the curse, Emma's son, Will, is seen scribbling all over the walls in his bedroom: a new series of numbers that warns the family about what's to come.
The show did not answer why he was experiencing the symptoms of the curse early on, which makes the revelation all the more chilling to witness.
This also means the 'curse' has been passed over to Will, especially considering he was the most traumatized family member during Emma's sleepless nights, what with nearly smothering him to death.
Whether this implies Insomnia season 2 remains to be seen, but either way, it fits the ending perfectly as the misfortune will continue to haunt their family.
