In Meg 2: The Trench, Jason Statham’s Jonas Taylor and Wu Jing's Jiuming Zhang lead a research team to explore the deepest depths of the ocean to investigate new creatures.
From the trailer, we know that the Megs are not the only creatures (or monsters) the team will face. So, what are the creatures in Meg 2: The Trench?
Megalodons
"New Meg. Old Chum."
There are multiple Megs in Meg 2: The Trench. In fact, one of them is named Haiqi, a Meg in captivity who Jiuming helped to raise since she was a baby. Another is also the biggest Meg anyone has ever seen.
Three megalodons manage to make it to Fun Island and attack beachgoers. Dealing with the Megs, Jonas rides a jet ski and brings some improvised harpoons to attack them.
A Giant Octopus
Megalodons are not the only creatures Jonas and his team face in Meg 2: The Trench. A giant octopus also manages to reach Fun Island.
While Jonas is busy dealing with the Megs, the others deal with a giant octopus. The giant octopus attacks beachgoers and takes down a helicopter.
We also see a fight between the giant octopus and a Meg.

Dinosaurs
The opening scene of Meg 2: The Trench takes us back 65 million years ago to the Cretaceous Period. We see some amphibian dinosaurs fighting over food until a T-rex arrives and scares everything away.
The T-rex snatches its prey until... it gets eaten by a megalodon.
In the present, some of these amphibious creatures attack on land as they manage to make it to Fun Island too, and join the chaos.
Thus, things are clearly different in The Meg sequel because Jonas Taylor and his team deal with not just Megs, but other creatures too. There’s definitely a lot of action in Meg 2: The Trench.
