Fast food giant Wendy's has released a new statement following their controversial social media post that poked fun at Katy Perry's Blue Origin flight.
The all-female space flight has been receiving backlash from people online since the trip took place earlier this week, with Wendy's even adding to the conversation by throwing shade at the singer.
Wendy's Controversial Katy Perry Receives Backlash from Insiders
People reported that Wendy's posts on X regarding Perry's Blue Origin space flight have received backlash from insiders as they questioned why a giant corporation would poke fun at the singer.
"Wendy’s didn’t make a joke — they made a choice. Their recent posts on X aimed at Katy Perry were not only disrespectful, but blatantly inappropriate," the source cited in the report said.
"This wasn't harmless banter, this was a billion-dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman. When billion-dollar brands join in, it’s irresponsible."
The source added, "[Wendy's is] not adding to the conversation, they’re dragging it down and this kind of behavior contributes to a culture where women are punished for standing out or a woman daring to do something different is a target."
The post that drew ire among insiders is when the fast food giant joked that Perry should be sent back to space.
"Telling a woman that she should be 'sent back' is shameful bullying and reflects a troubling willingness to tear down in today's society. What’s worse is that the face of Wendy’s is a woman, which makes this decision not just hypocritical, but painfully ironic," the source said.
"Everyone expected more from a brand with this kind of platform. Wendy’s should ‘do the right thing’ (the name of one of their core values) apologize, and do better in the future."
Wendy's Issues Statement in Response to Katy Perry Post Backlash
Wendy's issued a statement to People in response to the backlash on their social media posts that poked fun at Perry.
However, they stopped short of apologizing to the singer.
"We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent," the fast food giant said.
So far, Perry has not released an official statement regarding her reaction to the fast food giant's diss against her on social media.
A lot of celebrities have also criticized the Blue Origin NS-31 flight crew, including the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Wilde, Amy Schumer, and Olivia Munn.
