The upcoming Apple TV+ science-fiction series Pluribus will have some surprising references to the world of Breaking Bad.
Vince Gilligan is returning with a new original series that will star Better Call Saul's Rhea Seehorn, and it is being set up as the next big TV show that fans should not miss out on. While it is a standalone project and has no connections to Gilligan's previous shows, some are still wondering whether it will tie in to Breaking Bad in some capacity.
Is Pluribus Referencing the World of Breaking Bad?
In an interview with EW, Gilligan teased that Pluribus will have easter eggs to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
He didn't mention what kind of easter egg fans should expect in the series, but he is encouraging them to look out for callbacks when they finally watch the series this November.
"There might be a couple if you keep your eyes and ears peeled. Fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, if they pay close attention, they might come upon an Easter egg or two," the creator said.
While the new show is not set in the same world as Breaking Bad, it still has a connective tissue through Seehorn, who was the actress Gilligan had in mind for the lead role.
"Initially, I was thinking in terms of a male protagonist because that's how I think being a guy. But then I thought, well, what about Rhea? She's so good. She's so funny when she wants to be, but can also break your heart when she wants to," the showrunner revealed.
What to Expect in Pluribus
Pluribus is described as "a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness." The first season will consist of nine episodes.
"The drama of the show is that the world’s most miserable person is desperately trying to save the planet from happiness. There's a surprising amount of drama that we're mining from that," Gilligan teased.
Aside from Seehorn, the cast includes Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, and Samba Schutte.
Fortunately, the series has already been picked up for a second season renewal ahead of its debut. The premiere date is scheduled to take place this November 7 on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes, followed by a weekly drop until December 26.
