Warner Bros. CEO Has Confidence James Gunn Will Put DC Studios Back on the Map

James Gunn has yet to set his plan of starting a new slate for the DCU, and yet Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav has put all his confidence into the new DC Studios co-CEO in putting the franchise back on the map.

“What we tried to do is get really great leadership,” Zaslav said, per The Wrap, adding that, “The philosophy of our company is we don’t want people to go to meetings, we want the people to do the work.”

The Warner Bros. CEO continued, “So when I was meeting with James Gunn and he was writing Superman and he had written Guardians of the Galaxy — a big hit for Marvel, which we’re happy about because Gunn wrote and directed it,”

“I’m looking at it and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why isn’t this guy running [DC]?”

“[Gunn] grew up his whole life with DC, with these DC characters and he knows every one of them, they’re his family.” Zaslav shared, “He just wrote Superman, which I read. This is the guy we want and everybody wants to work with him.”

Zaslav’s statement resonates closely with how the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 treated James Gunn after he was fired from Marvel Studios.

The Guardians director recently revealed how grateful he is for getting sacked from the MCU, considering it led him to leading the DCU, as well as discovering how much Chris Pratt and the others adored him as director.

In fact, Gunn’s own castmates were the reason he got reinstated to helm his last Guardians film in the franchise.

Given that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been doing great numbers at the box office, it would seem that his upcoming DCU works would most likely emulate this success one way or another.

DC’s The Flash releases in theaters on June 16, while Superman: Legacy is currently slated to premiere on July 11, 2025.

In the meantime, you can check out James Gunn’s last MCU project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, now in theaters worldwide.
