Turns Out Wolverine Didn't Come Back in Marvel Legacy After All

Fans were surprised when Wolverine made his grand return during Marvel Legacy #1, getting an Infinity Stone and making fans wonder what he had planned. The character would eventually surrender the stone to Black Widow during Infinity Countdown and didn't even appear during Infinity Wars, aside from that amalgamation of Wolverine and Emma Frost. Well, it turns out that the Wolverine we saw wasn't Wolverine.

The Wolverine we know anyway…

So, turns out that Logan didn't come back to life until the events of Return of Wolverine, though that was him who appeared during all of those "post-credit" scenes that happened in various comics. The Logan we actually saw during Marvel Legacy #1 was a de-powered Old Man Phoenix, who many will remember from Jason Aaron's Thor run.

During Wolverine: Infinity Watch #1 it's revealed that Old Man Phoenix came from a universe where Loki was able to get all the Infinity Stones and essentially caused the end of the world. Old Man Phoenix had to use all of his power to time travel to the point where Loki would have gotten the Infinity Stone and intercepted it, essentially stopping those catastrophic events from happening.
