Transformers: Rise of the Beasts may not have been the mega-hit that Paramount was expecting, but they are going the more experimental route with the franchise with the upcoming animated prequel Transformers One.
The movie is expected to be released later this month, and early bird reviews have been nothing short of sparkling. Now Paramount has dropped a final trailer for the movie highlighting all the great things that critics had to say about the movie.
“The Best Transformers Movie Ever”
Critics have been talking about watching Transformers One weeks before its wide release, and a lot of great things have been said about the animated prequel. Some of the highlights of those reviews managed to make their way into the final preview of the film. Check this out:
Here are some choice reviews that made it to the trailer:
“The best Transformers movie ever.” – Chris Bumbray, JoBlo
“Bold and original” – Andrew J. Salazar, DiscussingFilm
“An unforgettable, heartfelt story” – Christopher Gallardo, The Hollywood Handle
Going back to the content of the trailer though, this is also the first time that they actually showcased Steve Buscemi’s voice as Starscream, Megatron’s eventual underling.
The trailer also goes so far as to give a teaser for all the transformations, specifically with Megatron’s tank configuration, and Optimus finally turning into a Cybertronian truck. It’s also revealed that Alpha Trion, who gives the main transformers their abilities, also turns into a kind of panther.
The Transformers Film that Fans Have Been Waiting For
Though Michael Bay’s Transformers movies had established the Autobots and Decepticons as box office spectacles, the release of Bumblebee is what prompted fans to ask for a Transformers movie that actually ditches the humans and just has a complete story set in the full robot world of Cybertron.
After all, despite what anyone says about the Bumblebee movie, the start of the film before Bee is sent to Earth is nothing short of spectacular:
It’s not clear why they decided to go for simplified robot designs for Transformers One, but it’s likely done so as to establish a completely new timeline where the writers are free to pick and choose what elements they want to add to the story.
Plus, they also have the freedom to revamp familiar characters like Optimus, Bumblebee, and Megatron.
Future of Transformers?
Rise of the Beasts had ended with a tease for a crossover with the G.I. Joe franchise, but it’s been more than a year, and fans haven’t gotten any major updates. With the animated movie though, Paramount can keep hype for the IP, and Hasbro can keep pumping out new toys—so it’s basically a win until the live-action films can push forward again.
If anything, Transformers did start out animated, and these films look cheaper to produce than live-action films. Who knows, maybe this could be the start of Transformers’ own version of a Spider-Verse spinoff.
Watch out for Transformers One when it comes to cinemas on Sept 20.
