It's been years since Sony released Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, but with the studio preparing for the release of its Venom standalone movie, original Venom actor Topher Grace has been doing a lot of self-reflection regarding his casting.
Speaking in an interview with Michael Rosenbaum in the podcast show Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Grace opens up about his love for Venom and his surprise when he was offered the chance to play Eddie Brock in Raimi's final Spider-Man movie. Grace didn't quite see himself as the Eddie Brock that he came to know in the comics. Now, seeing Tom Hardy play the part, the actor sees the perfect fit.
"I was a huge fan of the character of Venom when I was a kid when Todd McFarlane brought him into the comic. I was a huge fan of it. And I was surprised and a little bit like ‘Huh?' when they wanted me to play it. So when I look at it now, at the movie that's coming out, I go ‘That's the guy.' In terms of how I think the guy should be played and who should play it."
This isn't the first time that Grace as expressed excitement over Hardy's version of Venom. Earlier this week Grace also gushed about the English actor's depiction of the character, saying that it's the character that he had grown up reading when he was a child.
Still, despite Grace's excitement over Venom, some fans still have a few concerns over Sony's upcoming standalone movie, mainly because of the absence of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. There can't be a Venom without a Spider-Man – after all, the two are tied so closely together, especially with Venom's origin. Let's just wait and see whether Sony will give Spidey a small cameo in the movie.
Venom is set to premiere on October 5.
