Sylvester Stallone recently revealed that he was interested in playing a teenage version of John Rambo in a prequel movie using AI technology.
As everyone knows, the renowned movie star became an icon for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa and John Rambo in multiple films, cementing his legacy as one of the most iconic action stars of all time. Although he last played Rambo in 2019, plans are still underway to expand the franchise with an upcoming prequel movie starring Noah Centineo in the role.
Why Sylvester Stallone Wanted to Play Young John Rambo in a Prequel Movie Through AI?
In a recent interview on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Stallone opened up about his previous plans to do a John Rambo prequel movie and playing the teenage version himself using AI technology.
"Everyone thought I was crazy. AI is sophisticated enough to go through Saigon to see him at 18 years old and basically use the same image. So it isn’t as big a stretch," he recalled.
Stallone also weighed in on Centineo's casting as young Rambo in the prequel movie and how it might be challenging for him to take on the role.
He said, "It’s very, very hard. He may do a stellar job, but you’re overcoming this because I went through it with Get Carter. Everyone loves the original, and then you’re always fighting that prejudice."
Not only that, Stallone shared his reaction to the movie that is currently in the works about the making of Rocky and the casting of Anthony Ippolito as the younger version of him.
"I was shocked to read [about] it. I have zero to do with it. Since I lived it, I thought I might be able to participate and give them some insight," he said.
What to Expect in the John Rambo Prequel Movie
The film's plot is currently under wraps, but it is expected to explore John Rambo's origin story in the Vietnam War and how he became the iconic action hero that he is today.
No release date has been set yet for the movie, but production is expected to take place early next year in Thailand. No deal has been made yet with a studio that will distribute the project.
Stallone is not involved in any capacity, but he is aware of the project and was notified when Centineo was cast to take over the role of John Rambo.
