The Penguin Episode 2: What the HBO Series Changed About Oz Cobb's Family History
The DC Comics may have been the original source material for the live adaptation of The Penguin, but the showrunners crafted their own version of Oswald Cobblepot.
Apart from shortening his name to 'Oz Cobb', the series also showed how different his upbringing was on HBO.
Instead of growing up in a wealthy and influential family in the original storyline, we only see him living with his mother in the premiere. However, The Penguin episode 2 titled Inside Man, shows that Oz used to live with his two brothers, as well.
Their disappearance is a mystery on the show, but it does line up with how the comic books depicted him. The comics' version indicated that Oz killed his brothers in secret to gain his mother's undivided attention and affection.
While it remains to be seen how the same story wouldn't be applied here, The Penguin has a total of eight episodes to tell it right, which leaves space for fans to find out more about what The Batman's Oz Cobb has committed to in the past.
He wasn't as forgiving to Sofia's brother, Alberto, when he had to shoot him 'impulsively', there's a chance that he would have done the same thing to his own flesh and blood.
Even though they're not carved from the same fruit, the evidence is there: the Penguin can be as ruthless and as heartless to make sure he gets everything he ever wanted, which is to rule Gotham City on his terms.
