The Rotten Tomatoes score for the upcoming series The Penguin has been revealed, and it is already higher than the main film.

The highly-anticipated The Batman spinoff series will focus on Oswald Cobblepot's journey in the criminal underworld of Gotham City following the events of the first film.

A lot of fans are hoping that the series will live up to the hype and quality of the acclaimed first film and it will deliver a satisfying extension of Matt Reeves' universe as we wait for the sequel.

The Penguin's Rotten Tomatoes Score is Higher Than The Batman

With the critics' reviews for the series already out, the Rotten Tomatoes score for The Penguin was unveiled. Fortunately, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

As of the writing of this article, the series has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93% based on the 45 reviews that they gathered so far.

In comparison, The Batman has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 85% which is also an impressive score itself.

The spinoff series is receiving praise for its writing, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti's performances, grounded tone, and wonderful expansion of The Batman universe.

Aramide Tinubu of Variety called it a "masterful examination of criminality" and "twisted, disturbing and deeply enthralling" while Eric Goldman of TVLine praised it for providing an "entertaining and involving detour, diving further into the pivotal mobster side of Gotham City."

In Ben Travers' review for IndieWire, he described the series as "a Trumpian allegory at all is worth appreciating, as is Farrell burying his disarming charms behind 50 pounds of latex without concealing his considerable talents."

This is a pretty impressive critical reception for the spinoff series as it suggests that fans won't be disappointed and they can expect the same quality as the first film when they watch it starting next week.

It would be curious to see what the general audience will think of the series once the first episode premieres and whether it will have similar audience scores as the critics.

The Penguin is set to premiere on HBO this September 19 at 9 pm ET.
