FX's The Old Man just aired its highly-anticipated season 2 finale, which culminated the high stakes of espionage and twists we've been following throughout the season.
Last week's penultimate episode ended with a major cliffhanger as Dan Chase was seemingly left for dead. It made viewers wonder if it was the demise of the show's leading character.
Dan Chase Survives The Old Man Season 2 Finale
The season 2 finale of The Old Man addressed the cliffhanger surrounding the fate of Dan Chase.
Fortunately, Zoe managed to find Chase, who had been left for dead by Pavlovich’s men. She revived him through CPR and an antidote provided by Julian and took him to a safe house to recuperate.
It was also revealed that Chase's daughter Emily is still alive as she was able to negotiate with her captors and take control of the lithium deposit in Afghanistan after killing the Russian soldiers.
While recovering and hiding, Chase received a mysterious package containing a burner phone that led him to meet Emily discreetly at a diner. They had an emotional reunion and Emily asked for help to rescue Harper from Marion.
How Did The Old Man Season 2 Finale End? What Does It Mean for Season 3?
The season 2 finale ends with Emily telling her father that they need to seek help from "Lou Barlow," Chase's dangerous persona from the past.
Emily showed her determination to do whatever they could to rescue Harper, even if it could lead to dangerous territory. Chase realizes that she is no longer the daughter that he may have known and she is now tougher than he realized.
It teased that the father and daughter will be teaming up for the third season as they are now aiming to rescue Harper.
So far, the series has not been renewed for season 3, but viewers are definitely hoping that it will be getting a renewal soon as the cliffhanger was promising enough to let them know that there are still a lot more stories to unfold.
Jeff Bridges has also expressed his hope in a post-mortem interview that FX will let them do another season.
"The thing that really makes a project for me is who you’re working with, the different artists; that is one of the joys. It’s kind of a communal art form," he said.
"Everybody is playing together and it all trickles down from the top: [FX boss] Joe Landgraf, [producer] Warren Littlefield, our showrunner Jonathan E. Steinberg. All of those guys are creating a wonderful atmosphere for all the other artists to jam it."
