My Oxford Year star Corey Mylchreest recently revealed that he auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider in the canceled Tangled live-action remake.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Disney had decided to shelve the Tangled live-action remake that was in the works, following the box office disappointment of Snow White. At that time, no actors were attached to the project, but The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey was confirmed to be involved to helm the adaptation.
Did Corey Mylchreest Audition for the Role of Flynn Rider in the Tangled Live-Action Remake?
In an interview on Seventeen magazine (via Deadline), Mylchreest revealed that he auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider in the Tangled live-action remake when the project was still being developed.
"I think I can say this now because I don’t think it’s happening anymore, but I auditioned for Tangled," he said.
Mylchreest's My Oxford Year co-star Sofia Carson asked whether he sang during the process. When he nodded, Carson quipped, "See? I’ve been saying for a year that he sings, and he says that he doesn’t."
"We don’t have the footage anymore. I deleted it and then I burnt it and then I burnt the phone that I filmed on," Mylchreest added. "And then I burnt the room that I did it in. And then I burnt myself."
He concluded, "No, it wasn’t very good. They then told me that they wanted someone with singing experience." He also joked that he was "born to play" the character since he has similar hair.
Is Disney Planning to Revive the Tangled Live-Action Project?
So far, Disney still has no plans to revive the Tangled live-action project anytime soon, and they've been slowing down in developing live-action remakes of their animated classics.
However, considering that Lilo & Stitch managed to earn more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, they might consider the idea of reviving the project again and exploring the opportunity of whether there is a market for audiences today to watch a live-action version of Tangled.
Moana is the only live-action remake that is currently on Disney's upcoming slate. It is slated to arrive in theaters in the summer of next year.
