After being briefly paused to make way for the recent World Cup, cameras have started rolling on The Last of Us Season 3 again, and new production videos have made their way online.
One of them was posted by X user svtjems, showing filming taking place across the street and featuring Jesse (Young Mazino) and Tommy (Gabriel Luna) running through a small alley.
Knowing that Jesse died in the previous season, it’s quite a surprise to see him involved in the new season’s production.
By the looks of it, after Jesse was shot and killed during a dramatic theater confrontation, his appearance may indicate a flashback scene involving him and Tommy.
Season 3 may fill in the gaps in Tommy’s storyline. The show made a big change by having him fight the infected instead of witnessing Joel’s death at the hands of Abby.
He also made his way to the West Coast with Jesse to try to stop Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced), while in the game, he arrived first and attempted to take out the Salt Lake Crew by himself.
However, as all this unfolded in Season 2, there was an evident gap in which Tommy’s whereabouts were unknown.
In the previous season’s finale, Jesse revealed that he and Tommy had parted ways to find Ellie and Dina, only for Tommy to end up being held at gunpoint by Abby.
So, as it appears, The Last of Us Season 3 may feature Tommy’s perspective on what really happened that fateful night and explore his storyline during his time in Seattle.
What to Expect From The Last of Us Season 3
After being introduced in the previous season, The Last of Us Season 3 will shift its focus to Abby and feature her perspective on the conflict in Seattle.
Ellie’s timeline from the second half of The Last of Us Part II will be heavily mirrored this time, while viewers will get a deeper look into the brutal territorial war between the Washington Liberation Front (WLF/Wolves) and the Seraphites (Scars).
And as Abby’s revenge is primarily driven by Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) killing of her father, Jerry (Patrick Wilson), the Firefly surgeon who tried to create a vaccine by operating on Ellie and may have ultimately killed her, there may be flashbacks exploring Abby and Jerry’s relationship.
Of course, with several new cast members joining the series, fans will also see the introduction of key allies and foes, including Yara, Lev, and the new Seraphite leader Amon (Peter Sarsgaard).
The Last of Us Season 3 is expected to be released in 2027, while the first two seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
