Marvel fans who were present at Hall H at SDCC 2024 were treated to a special look at The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and while there was a good look at the main cast, there was a small tease for a gigantic Galactus—the Devourer of Worlds.
While fans know that Galactus, this time, won’t just be a giant cloud, there is still a lot about the character that hasn’t been revealed. Interestingly, he has one character trait that oddly connects him to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness character America Chavez.
How is Galactus Connected to America Chavez?
America Chavez is a unique character in that she has the power to jump across multiple dimensions. She’s done it so often that she taught the Sorcerer Supreme himself a thing or two about alternate dimensions.
Another unique trait of America is that she doesn’t have any variants across the multiverse—meaning she’s the only being who is herself in all existence. This is also the case with the MCU’s Galactus.
According to The Cosmic Circus, like America, Galactus is the only version of himself that exists across the multiverse. The source explains, “Galactus is going to be the only individual from—in the entire multiverse. This is the one. There is no Galactus variant. This is him. Period.”
So far, no other details have been released about this Galactus, but fans know he has a female Silver Surfer, a woman (played by Julia Garner) in the movie.
Eternals has also given fans an idea of how large Celestials can be compared to the Earth, but Galactus has always had the power to just change his size at will.
What Does It Mean When Galactus has No Variants?
With the Fantastic Four set in an alternate retro future from the main timeline (i.e., timeline 616), a lot of fans have been speculating that the Four will actually lose their home to Galactus and they will be forced to transfer to an alternate reality which is the main MCU.
It’s unclear when the Four will jump multiverses in their film, but they can pretty much spend the whole movie in their universe and get transferred by the end; or they could lose their universe in the beginning of the film and spend the rest of the runtime fending off Galactus as he comes for Earth-616.
With Galactus having no variant, it means that the Four won’t have any alternate Galactus to study so they can’t compare and contrast solutions. It will also make the connection between the Four and Galactus more personal since they will know that if a Galactus comes for Earth-616, it will be their Galactus.
For now, all fans can just do is speculate, but at least they’re happy that they’re finally getting a comic-accurate Galactus compared to The Rise of Silver Surfer that was too scared of putting a giant alien humanoid with a funky helmet on the big screen.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is expected to hit cinemas on July 25, 2025.
