The Big Blue reached for the skies and won when David Corenswet's Superman blew big numbers at the box office, but Clark Kent is not the star fans should look out for in its DC sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
According to James Gunn, the team-up between Superman and Lex Luthor goes beyond what the first film introduced.
How Will Lex Luthor Shine in DC's Man of Tomorrow?
Man of Tomorrow may scream the Big Blue in the sky, but director and new DC Studios head James Gunn surprises fans with the announcement that David Corenswet's Superman will be teaming up with the villainous Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult).

"Superman's more comic-booky in some ways than Man of Tomorrow," Gunn explained on ScreenRant, "And it has to do with the dual characters of Lex and Superman at the center of Man of Tomorrow and other things."
Gunn added that he was "more interested in getting into the heart of Lex" and "getting to know more of Lex as a human being", especially considering that Superman had yet to humanize his character on the big screens.
Despite everything Lex did in the film to take down Superman, Gunn still believes there's something heroic behind it.
"Take aside morality, which is hard to do, but here is this guy who's saying, 'You can hold up a building. You can shoot down planes with your eyes. F*** you, I'm going to kick your a** because I'm better than you.'" Gunn said, "I can't help but admire his tenacity and his ego. I mean, his ambition is beyond compare."
What Do James Gunn's Comments Mean for Man of Tomorrow?

If you think about it, the title itself pretty much conveys what James Gunn is trying to tell fans: Man of Tomorrow. But no "man" was mentioned in the title, of course, apart from its 2020 animated film, Superman: Man of Tomorrow. But to Gunn, this sequel is like no other.
The Man of Tomorrow needs more refinement. If anything, Lex Luthor could just as easily be the "star of the show", considering that his one true goal is to vanquish the "alien" from his homeland, not entirely to just claim victory, but to coax his own ego that he could do anything, he could defeat just about anyone, even Superman.
Unfortunately, plot details are still being kept under wraps for Man of Tomorrow, but who's to say we won't see Lex in a different light upon his return? What do you think Gunn's comments mean?
Meanwhile, fans can expect the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, on July 9, 2027.
