The Boys season 5 episode 5, titled "One Shots," finds Valorie Curry (Firecracker) facing Homelander in a dangerously violent mood. Homelander spills the beans to confront her whether or not it was true that Firecracker, a woman who had stuck to his side since day one, had privately doubted his divinity and perfection.

This also comes after Homelander learned that Firecracker "made love" to his father, Soldier Boy. By the end of her string, Firecracker was practically begging Homelander, knowing what was coming, but her last words got to him: "We all need love... even a God," which implied that The Seven's strongest still had a weakness. Homelander did not like that one bit.

"I think when I first read it, probably, I think it looked like she's begging in a way that maybe we've seen before, and I wasn't totally sure why he impulsively does it," Curry said in a recent interview with The Direct, adding how lucky she was to have shot all those scenes and ultimately experience the downfall of Firecracker.

"She is so utterly broken and at the end of her rope by the time she walks into that room," Curry continued, "And also, because of that, I think that the argument that it turns into comes out of the fact that she has nothing left, no filter left. The mask has completely fallen, and so she's angry at him."

Why Homelander Decided to Get Rid of One of His Only Allies

This isn't the first time Homelander has dealt with his own allies. In fact, if anything, it just highlights how much he is determined to protect his pride and reputation. Take a look at how he killed Madelyn Stillwell in season 1, all because he realized he was being kept from finding out about his son, Ryan.

As for the potential reason as to why Homelander decided to put an end to one of his remaining loyal followers, Curry couldn't have worded it better: "My feeling in the end, and I'm sure there's a million reasons, and you know, [Antony Starr] can speak to them, why he impulsively does that, is because she's winning."

"I felt she was winning the argument, and that was too uncomfortable for him. That was too vulnerable for him. It was too exposing of his humanity, which was exactly what he's been trying to distance himself from this whole season. So she had to go," Curry said.

In the meantime, fans can wait until The Boys season 5 episode 6 premieres May 6, 2026 on Prime Video. Stay tuned!
