The Batman 2 has to be one of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming superhero movies, so this news of a delay may upset more than a few fans.

As first reported by Deadline.com, The Batman 2 was scheduled to release October 3, 2025, but has now been held back an entire year till October 2, 2026. Robert Pattinson's jaunt as the world's greatest detective was hailed by many as the greatest Batman movie ever; now it looks like fans will have to wait a while longer before venturing back into the streets of Gotham City.

According to Deadline's report, the delay is due to the recent writer strikes, which have seeminingly thrown a wrench in the profuction schedule.

While it is a crying shame that we will need to all wait for over two years to see Robert Pattinson step back into the cowl, next summer, on July 11, 2025, we will witness the birth of the DCU with James Gunn at the helm for the upcoming Superman (formerly Superman Legacy), starring David Corenswet as the man of steel himself.

Matt Reeves' Batman movies, like the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux, are not considered a part of the rebooted DC Comics cinematic universe (DCU). Instead, James Gunn deemed those versions as DC Elseworlds, tales outside the main universe. These gritty interpretations of the DC characters are both worthy contenders for being considered the greatest superhero flicks of all time.

Joaquin Phoenix was praised for his chilling performance as the Clown Prince of Crime at the 92nd Academy Awards 2020. The film earned 11 nominations (including Best Picture), winning Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score.
