Following the massive success of the first film in 2019, a lot of fans are now looking forward to the release of the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux next year which already wrapped production a year ago.

So far, most of the plot details are under wraps except for the inclusion of megastar Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and it will reportedly contain musical elements. It is also delegated as part of the DC Elseworlds outside the DCU.

There's no doubt that the idea for the sequel is ambitious in scale considering that it is a major step up from the first film's more grounded approach to the origins of the iconic villain, especially since it will now have musical sequences that take a giant feat to pull off.

In an interview with Definition Magazine (via Home of DCU), cinematographer Lawrence Sher teased some intriguing details about Joker: Folie à Deux where he claimed that it is "risky" and will surprise a lot of the audience.

"Next year we're releasing the new Joker movie, and we're currently in the final stages of post-production. It's a pretty risky movie and it's going to be surprising for people. I'm so excited for everyone to see it," he said.

Considering that the sequel is set to have musical elements, it's not out of realm to think that it will be surprising to the audience who might not be accustomed to seeing the iconic villain do a sing-and-dance number.

The concept alone also makes it different from the first film and it is an ambitious feat that hopefully director Todd Phillips was able to pull off since it could potentially divide the audience.

It does help that Lady Gaga is part of the cast and we know that she is a world-class performer so there's no doubt that she will be able to do a terrific job playing Harley Quinn, especially in the musical numbers.

We're still less than a year away before we get to see the film, but this should excite the fans who have been curious to see how they'll follow up the acclaimed first movie.

Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for release in theaters on October 4, 2024.
