The Acolyte is one week away from debuting on Disney+, however, Star Wars fans don't have to wait any longer to check out the show's reviews. Some of the early reviews implied that The Acolyte serves Twin Peaks vibes.

Lee Jung-Jae and Amandla Stenberg are set to tell the story of The Acolyte, in which the Jedi Master Sol meets his former Padawan Mae in the most grueling way possible.

Now, how does their story connect or feel similar to the iconic 80s murder mystery series? Let's find out.

Classic Twin Peaks Story Merges in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Murder mysteries are nothing new in the universe of Star Wars. However, one particular early review caught fans' eyes when they compared Twin Peaks and Matt Reeves' The Batman combo with The Acolyte's first four episodes:

"The Acolyte eps 1-4 are superb," Star Wars Holocron wrote, "A captivating murder mystery that evokes the detective tales of Twin Peaks & Matt Reeves' The Batman." What could this mean?

Twin Peaks was a sensational murder mystery series that was first broadcast in 1990.

There's no question as to why Twin Peaks would be the best series to be compared to, especially considering its influential phenomenon in today's thriller TV shows.

However, what fans should pay attention to is why the reviewer came to that conclusion. These two shows may not be related, but based on the few trailers of The Acolyte, here's what it tells us.

Exploring the Similarities Between Twin Peaks and The Acolyte

Twin Peaks tells an unconventional yet innovative story of how they discovered the killer behind homecoming queen Laura Palmer.

However, it also features the revenge story of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper who reunites with his former FBI partner and mentor Windom Earle. Sound familiar?

Earle came to Twin Peaks for one thing: to set out his revenge against Cooper for taking something he truly loved. In this case, Cooper had an affair with Earle's wife, Caroline.

Out of heartbreak, Earle went mad and killed his wife and was sent to a mental institution for it. Years later, he escaped and returned to Twin Peaks to plot his revenge.

The Acolyte teaser trailers appear to indicate an identical plotline, with the former Padawan Mae turning to the Dark Side due to a reason we're about to witness once the series premieres on Disney+.

The Jedi Master ends up reuniting with his student to investigate the emerging powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

Let's not forget the other obvious factor. Take note of the keyword "twin." Twin Peaks involved doppelgangers for the "evil counterparts" of the main characters.

The Acolyte seems to show the same thing, with fan theories suggesting that Mae has a potential "twin" named Osha, who either came from a different timeline or is another side of her that she has yet to control.

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres its first two episodes on Disney+ on June 4.
