The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland recently opened up about the biggest regret that she had during the making of season 1.

Last week, the series finished its eight-episode first season run to mixed reactions from fans as some of them were happy with its bold creative choices while some were against its alleged canon changes or focus on diverse characters.

The first season finale teased some potential storylines for the surviving characters that heighten the stakes moving forward and pave the way for what we've seen in the prequel trilogy.

Headland revealed in a recent interview that she has one major regret about the making of The Acolyte season 1.

She admitted that she wanted to explore more of Vernestra Rwoh's backstory, but she decided to cut it as they were already juggling too many storylines.

"That was something I kept trying to slip in, but there was so much. It's a really packed season, and I love that," the showrunner said.

"My goal is to explore as many nooks and crannies as I can in the time I am given, and Star Wars is the perfect place to do that because there's nothing but good nooks and crannies – all of this world that's available to you that you can dig into. So of course there were things that I didn't get to explore."

Headland continued, "We wanted to answer a lot of questions. We wanted to show Qimir's master. We weren't going to wait a second season for that. We wanted to wrap up the twin storyline. We were not going to leave everybody hanging. They've sat through all of this, and we want to reward people for watching."

While it would have been great for them to explore more of Vernestra's backstory, Headland still made the right choice to cut the storyline from the first season to avoid overcrowding its already-packed plot.

Fortunately, the character's journey will still continue in the second season and they will have room to explore her backstory if Headland decides to finally do it.

For now, let's hope that the series will get a second season as Lucasfilm has not announced any plans to renew it.
