The potential season 2 renewal of The Acolyte is starting to look unlikely now as the series is getting underwhelming viewership.

As we are heading to the first season finale this week, fans have been wondering whether the High Republic-set Star Wars series will officially get renewed for a second season.

While the series is getting positive reviews from critics, it has faced backlash from some fans as it is labeled as being "woke" for its diverse characters and become the subject of a review bombing campaign.

The Acolyte Season 2 Might Be Unlikely Based on Viewership

A recent report suggested that a season 2 renewal of The Acolyte might be unlikely due to its underwhelming viewership record.

While the two-episode premiere received an impressive viewership record, the rest of the season has not lived up to it as its numbers have fallen behind the other live-action Star Wars shows.

Citing a Nielsen report, The Acolyte appears to have half the viewership of Ahsoka and 75% lower than The Mandalorian.

It is also reportedly the second-least watched Star Wars live-action series as it is behind The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Andor currently holds the record of being the least-watched Star Wars series. However, unlike The Acolyte, it was tightly planned as a two-season project that concludes with the events leading up to Rogue One.

However, despite its underwhelming viewership, there is still a strong chance that the series will get renewed since showrunner Leslye Headland already has ideas in mind for season 2, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been supportive of her creative vision for the series.

Given the show's massive budget, it is likely that they might only continue if they reduce the cost for season 2 or find a way to make the production financially efficient while not sacrificing the quality of storytelling.

For now, let's wait and see whether Lucasfilm will officially announce the renewal sometime after the first season finale aired.
