Following the release of the trailer, The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland confirmed that there are plans for a second season of the upcoming Star Wars series.

A lot of fans have been anticipating the release of The Acolyte since it is the first major Star Wars project that is set in the High Republic era and they finally got their first glimpse of the new series yesterday.

There have been questions about whether the series will be a one-off season similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi or it will run for multiple seasons just like The Mandalorian.

In an interview with Collider, Headland was asked about the possibility of future seasons of The Acolyte.

She revealed that she pitched the series as a multi-season and that the end of the first season won't conclude the narrative thread nor end with an emotional cliffhanger.

"I would say that when I pitched it, I definitely pitched it as a multi-season show. There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure," Headland said.

"However, I am the type of writer that is not interested in an emotional cliffhanger. I want you to feel like you've had a particular type of catharsis, and an emotional experience in watching those eight episodes because I like rewarding the audience with that."

Headland also assured that she already has a timeline in mind for the production of the second season and the turnaround might be quicker.

"We could make it pretty quickly. We definitely have a timeline. I have a lot of ideas, and again, a lot of it was stuff that I told Kathleen [Kennedy] early on, in terms of where I would like the season to go, and the conflicts that I see happening, specifically in the second season," she said.

"But I have been working nonstop on this for a very long time, so I am definitely taking a much-needed break before we get the writer room going."

This is exciting news for fans who were wondering about the future of the series following the first season and hoping that we will be seeing more of the High Republic era.

Just like most shows, it all comes down to whether The Acolyte will become a success critically and viewership-wise. As long as it gets an enthusiastic reception, a second season is definitely a guarantee.

The Acolyte will premiere with two episodes this June 4 on Disney+.
