The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland recently addressed the fan theories surrounding Osha and Mae's powers in comparison to Anakin Skywalker.

The flashback episodes of the series revealed a shocking twist regarding the origins of Osha and Mae as they confirmed that they were created by Mother Aniseya's coven using a Force vergence.

Not only that, the recently-aired episode 7 also suggested that Osha and Mae may not be biological twins after all and they are two bodies that were split by a single consciousness based on their M-count.

The Acolyte Showrunner Explains Osha and Mae's Power Connection to Anakin Skywalker

Since The Acolyte episode 8's reveal regarding Mae and Osha's origins, fans have speculated that the twins might be more powerful than any Jedis and have a similar power level as Anakin Skywalker.

However, it was shot down by Headland during a recent interview as she clarified that Mae and Osha are not as powerful as Anakin after all.

"It’s like when you’re doing an experiment and it’s the first round of it. They are maybe not the first, but one of the first experiments of this particular use of power. So the twins are weaker than Anakin, for sure," the showrunner explained.

"They are going to fall short of what will eventually become the Chosen One. They will never achieve what that is, because in my mind, Aniseya could only do so much. She’s not powerful enough to create one person."

Headland continued, "The twins split, Aniseya’s power split, and therefore a lot of her philosophy is about the power of two. About the fact that they must stay together. They must stay together. The twins are stronger together if she keeps them together. And obviously there’s an analogy to this of the isolationist feeling, not just of the coven, but also of family."

While there are still some unanswered questions regarding Mae and Osha's origins that were established in the recent episode, the showrunner assured that they will be explored further in next week's season finale.

Despite the concerns from some fans regarding how the series might establish the twins as more powerful than Anakin, Headland's explanation should shoot down any of it as we have a confirmation that they are still inferior to him.

It is curious to see how they will explore more of the twins' powers in the upcoming season finale and whether there is one more twist that they will reveal on their origins.

New episodes of The Acolyte premiere every Tuesday night on Disney+.
