The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto recently revealed that the first season finale originally ended with a kiss scene between Osha and Qimir before the plan was changed.
The recently aired season finale of the Star Wars series saw Osha turning to the dark side as she agreed to train under Qimir. Their final shot implied a potential romance that might be formed between them in the second season.
Some fans who have been shipping Osha and Qimir were happy with their fate because of its strong implication in their relationship. However, as it turns out, the original ending wasn't as ambiguous as what the final cut showed.
Osha and Qimir Originally Have a Kiss Scene in The Acolyte Season 1 Finale
Jacinto revealed in a recent interview that they filmed a kissing scene between Osha and Qimir for The Acolyte season 1 finale.
However, they ended up cutting it as they found the scene "too earned" and they didn't feel that it was appropriate for the moment.
"There was a version that we filmed where Osha and the Stranger actually kiss. But we felt that it may have not been too earned at that moment. I think it was just too early on," the actor explained.
"The Stranger killed a bunch of her friends, and she just killed her fatherlike figure. For them to have this sensual moment just didn’t feel like it was appropriate. It’s just on the cutting-room floor."
Jacinto suggested that Osha and Qimir should hold hands instead while looking at the sunset, which is the scene that we ended up seeing in the final version.
He continued, "But I suggested, 'Maybe not the kiss, but how about a hand-hold?' Some sort of wanting to console, some sort of physicality that expresses that he cares for her and feels for her and that they’re in this together now. That’s something that, if we do a season two, maybe we can work toward, if the fans want it."
Most fans might agree that they made the right choice in the end since a kissing scene between Osha and Qimir would have been too inappropriate for the moment considering that their mentor-apprentice relationship has just started.
While some might be disappointed about the removal of the kissing scene, perhaps they might do it in the second season once they develop their relationship and become romantic partners for real.
