Apple TV+ has marked the start of Ted Lasso Season 4 production with a first look at Jason Sudeikis, alongside Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Swift.

As the new season moves to Kansas City following the Season 3 finale, not everyone from AFC Richmond will return for the next match. The network announced Monday that Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt, is no longer a series regular.

So, will fans still see Dunster in Ted Lasso Season 4? And what can they expect from the upcoming season?

According to Deadline, following the renewal of Ted Lasso for a new season, Waddingham, Goldstein, and Swift were confirmed to reprise their roles.

However, Phil Dunster was left out due to a “conflict with another series.” The 33-year-old actor has reportedly signed on as a series regular in a new HBO comedy from Ted Lasso executive producer Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros. TV.

Despite this, there’s still a chance he could appear in Ted Lasso Season 4, though only “in some limited capacity.”

Nick Mohammed may also return as Nathan Shelley.

As one of Apple TV+’s flagship and most-watched original series, it’s no surprise that Ted Lasso has been renewed for another season.

Season 4 will pick up where Season 3 left off, with the premiere episode set to be filmed in Kansas before the show moves back entirely to the U.K.

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’” Sudeikis said about the new season. “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

By the looks of it, AFC Richmond will remain the show’s setting, despite Ted’s departure in the Season 3 finale to return to his home state of Kansas.

However, Sudeikis seems to be referring to the “folks” on the team, not the players themselves. This lines up with the fact that all the returning original cast members play characters from Richmond’s management or coaching staff, not the male players whose stories were central in the first three seasons.

That said, Sudeikis’ phrase “leap before they look” may hint at the introduction of AFC Richmond’s women’s team.True enough, Sudeikis later confirmed that Ted will be coaching a women’s team in Season 4—making it a true “leap of faith.”

“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team,” the fourth season official logline reads. “Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

In addition to Sudeikis, Waddingham, Temple, and Swift, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt will also return in Ted Lasso Season 4.

New cast members include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely, who will now play Ted’s son, Henry (previously portrayed by Gus Turner).
