A new report explained how James Gunn's highly-anticipated DCU reboot of Superman will be far different from Man of Steel.
The film will officially launch the new DCU franchise on the big screen and introduce a new iteration of Superman played by David Corenswet. Production recently wrapped ahead of its release next year.
Needless to say, a lot of fans have been anticipating the film and hoping that the new version will live up to expectations, especially after the divisive reception of the DCEU iteration of the hero.
James Gunn's Superman Reportedly the 'Exact Opposite of Man of Steel'
According to insider Daniel Richtman, he heard from sources that Gunn's Superman is "fantastic" and "a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel."
The film is "set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU" and "heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU."
In terms of the franchise's plan, Richtman explained, "The DCU will feature various projects set across different timelines, not just present day. So more in line with the approach of Star Wars than Marvel."
So far, DC Studios has not commented on Richtman's claims in his scoop.
If it all ends up being true, this sounds like exactly what most fans might have been expecting based on the teases that we've heard from Gunn and the set photos.
We have been seeing signs that the DCU reboot will harken back to the bright and optimistic tone of the character, instead of the DCEU version where their take on the hero is considered to be dark and broody.
They are also making efforts to make the DCU version more different than the previous iterations and introduce a new Superman that the current generation will appreciate while retaining the characteristics that we know.
It would be interesting to see what it looks like once we see the first trailer, and hopefully, it will live up to the expectations.
Superman is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
