Strixhaven: School of Mages, the 87th Magic: The Gathering set, features lore that takes place in the elite university of the multiverse, featuring five colleges battling it out with their own takes on magic. Because of its magic school setting and owl set symbol, it's easy to associate Strixhaven with J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, and fans are wondering if the upcoming set will feature similar themes.
Over on Twitter, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater has clarified something about Strixhaven: School of Mages. While he hasn't yet revealed what plane the Strixhaven school is located, he confirmed that the set is Magic's take on the magic school genre and not just a reskinning of any one version of it.
While Strixhaven will most likely feature similar themes to Harry Potter, Rosewater's comment confirms that Strixhaven will not just be a reskinning of Rowling's epic fantasy series, so don't expect Magic's version of Quidditch or the Sorting Hat. Harry Potter is such a cultural phenomenon that it's going to be hard for fans to seperate their feelings about it from the magical school genre as a whole, but Potterheads and fans of the magical school genre should be excited to see Magic's take on the genre will have similar and different story elements.
