There is little doubt that anyone who watched the third episode of The Last of Us was an emotional wreck. So it's no surprise that legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg was so moved by Episode 3 that he sent a letter to the show's creators.
The Last of Us Director Reveals Steven Spielberg Wrote A Letter After Watching Episode 3
The third episode of The Last of Us followed the love story of Bill and Frank after the apocalypse. Although both characters appeared in the Naughty Dog video game, their backstory was never explored in the title.
Interestingly, Steven Spielberg enjoyed The Last of Us Episode 3 so much that he wrote a letter to the creators. Episode director Peter Hoar confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter that the cast and crew received a letter from the filmmaker.
"I didn't get it directly, but [an actual Spielberg letter] came to Craig Mazin, the writer of my episode on The Last of Us – the writer of all the episodes,” Hoar said.
"He shared it with myself, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett and [cinematographer] Eben Bolter," he continued.
"Basically, a whole group of middle-aged men started squealing because their idol had realized who they were," Hoar added.
"I think he probably knew who everyone else was, but he didn't know who I was. And now he's probably forgotten," he concluded.
The third episode of The Last of Us was titled Long, Long Time and although it opened with Joel and Ellie, it focused mostly on Bill and Frank.
Long, Long Time continues to be one of the most popular episodes of the show's first season. After all, Episode 3 showed a genuine love story and a different perspective on how life continued after the apocalypse.
The Last of Us has already been confirmed for a second season. However, The Last of Us Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
