J. J. Abrams surprised fans when he brought back Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only was the Emperor alive and well in Episode IX, but Darth Sidious also revealed that he had been behind the actions of Snoke all along, showing off a vat filled with what seemed like clones of himself.
While the opening sequence of The Rise of Skywalker implies that Snoke had simply been a creation of Palpatine, fans still believe that the First Order Supreme Leader had been his own being.
Taking to Reddit, a Star Wars fan continues to argue that Snoke was actually in control of himself in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, pointing out a line that Palpatine tells Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in the movie.
Speaking with the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher), Palpatine reveals that he had been "every voice you've heard inside your head," going on to do impressions of Snoke and Vader.
While this scene is supposed to prove that Darth Sidious had been Snoke all alone, the Redditor's fan theory suggests that a closer reading of the line offers a different kind of implication.
While Palpatine says that he was every voice that Kylo Ren had heard inside his head, the Star Wars villain doesn't claim upfront that he had controlled Snoke's every movement. This means that the Snoke that we get to see on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi was his own person.
It seems like an interesting theory. After all, Palpatine did say that he only "made Snoke," not that he controlled Snoke's every movement. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
